Writing 2021!

I'm putting some writing out there!

March 4, 2021

I’ve been a little quiet here for a bit, but now it’s time to reveal a little something I’ve been cooking up.

I took a step back and looked at some of the writing I had done over the last few years and what is uploaded to this website, and it doesn’t really correlate anymore. Most of the writing here is at least 4 years old and I've written better stuff since then.
Part of the reason for that was that I was trying to figure out how to get short stories published, trying to submit them to magazines or the like, with no success (which is not that abnormal, most advice says you get 90% rejections on any story, and I’ve only really sent each one to a maximum of 5-6 places, so math is against me.)
But I honestly just got tired of the waiting process (each rejection takes 3-6 months), so I took stock, and what I really want is the writing to be out there. I don’t need the money, right now (you shouldn't be doing this for the money, anyway, it's not a lot). The recognition would be great, the stamp of approval of a recognized magazine publishing a story would be amazing, but right now, eh, I just want them out there. So I can link to them. So I can show some writing.

I’m bad at showing my work. Always have been. So this year, I’m going to try to do a little better. This is a first step to that. So, over the course of March, I will upload a series of short stories I’ve written, some within the last two years, some even older than that, but they’re all stories I’m happy with, and yet have never shown to anyone outside friends or family.

The first one is uploaded today alongside this blog post, and it’s called “The Last Summer” and it’s a wonderful story I am so, so, happy with about two friends saying goodbye in a world without travel.

Each story will be different in tone and style, so I don’t expect anyone to like all of them equally but I hope there’s something in there you’ll enjoy. Here’s a list, as a teaser.

6th of March: The Last Summer

13th of March: Our Little Utopia

20th of March: A Family Call

27th of March: ???

The last one is a little uncertain. There are two stories I’m debating, seeing which one I can whip into the best shape, and I might honestly pull back and not publish any of them if I’m not feeling them at the moment, but we’ll see! But the first three are set, I’m proud of them.

I have another America blog in the think-tank and potentially a blog about Fuser coming out in the next while, too, so there should be some stuff coming out as well on the more casual writing front! Don’t expect monthly writing updates like this on the regular.

Stay safe out there
